This clinic will focus on the basics of caring for and raising poultry, making it a great opportunity for members who are brand new to poultry as well as those who want to build a strong foundation and keep their knowledge fresh.

We’ll cover the essentials you need to get started, including proper housing, feeding and nutrition, fresh water, daily care, handling, pest prevention, common diseases, sanitation, and general flock health. We’ll also talk about what to expect as your birds grow and how to recognize potential problems before they become bigger issues.

Handouts will be available, but don’t worry if you miss one—all of the information will also be posted afterward in the blog section of the website. This way, you’ll be able to review the material and refer back to it throughout the year.

This clinic also counts as your first opportunity to meet an attendance requirement for the year. There is no preregistration required, but please make sure to sign in when you arrive so your attendance is recorded.

If you have showmanship birds at home, please bring them along! We will begin introducing members to proper handling and care practices, so having your own bird will give you an opportunity to learn and practice with the bird you will be working with throughout the year. If you don’t have a bird yet, don’t worry—we will have a few birds available for members to borrow and practice with.

Please remember that we will listen and learn first, and then begin our hands-on practice. Because of this, all birds need to remain outside in the shade with access to water until it is time to handle them. Please bring your bird in a safe, secure carrier or appropriate container.

Seating is limited and therefore reserved for 4-H and FFA members first. Parents may only take a seat if there is extra space available.
