Showmanship

Poultry showmanship is a judged event where exhibitors demonstrate their knowledge of poultry and their ability to handle and present their bird properly. Unlike breed classes, where the bird itself is judged, showmanship focuses on the exhibitor.

In poultry showmanship, participants are evaluated on:

  • Handling skills – how confidently and correctly they handle their bird (lifting, turning, showing wings, etc.)

  • Knowledge – ability to answer questions about poultry breeds, anatomy, care, diseases, feed, and general poultry management

  • Presentation – cleanliness and condition of both the bird and the exhibitor, as well as how well they communicate and follow the judge's instructions

The goal is to showcase the exhibitor’s responsibility, preparation, and understanding of proper poultry care and exhibition.

Poultry showmanship is required for all poultry participants at the Pima County Fair. Exhibitors must be prepared to participate and will be judged accordingly.
